Who
am I?
My name is Chrisaline Teodoro da Silva, and I am 25 years old.
I was
born in Natal, Brazil.
I came
to Canada as a six-month-old baby.
I am currently a Criminology and Psychology Joint Major undergraduate
student at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, Canada. Ever since
I can remember, I have been passionate about helping and counselling youth
at risk. In 2012, I took four months off of work and studies to travel
to Brazil, for the first time since leaving there as a baby.
I volunteered in a care center called Creche Tio Manoel Vieira. My volunteer
work there included teaching English to the older kids, as well as assisting
them in their drama classes and art classes.
With the young children, I supervised them during play time, and assisted
them when it came to getting ready for large cultural events, such as
the Saint John the Baptist festival, where the young children sang and
danced. Creche Tio Manoel Vieira (Uncle Manoel Care Center) is a care
center for young children and adolescents who are partially abandoned
and in need of assistance. It is located in Paulista, Pernambuco State,
Brazil. To read more about the centre, click here.
